Random Wedneday {all about JOE!}

It's my hub-sters bday today.  The big 3-4.  {When did we both get so old?} In keeping with the theme of the day being ALL ABOUT JOE {smile}....I'm doing my Random Wednesday today.....JOE STYLE.  Random.....funny facts about my better half.  Strap on your seatbelts!

  1. *While giving birth to Grant....I was literally in the middle of pushing when Joe told the nurse to hang on just a minute....he had to go to the bathroom.  And we’re not talking number 1.  He actually LEFT the room and went DOWN the hall because he had to go number 2 and it couldn’t wait.  Seriously. I held pushing Grant out....just so he could go number 2.  Lets just say he’s lucky he made it back in time.

  2. *Joe prides himself in being a ‘comic genius’.  Sometimes I catch him practicing  jokes in front of the mirror.  He gets embarrassed when I catch him but according to him...”the joke is all in the delivery”.  I guess that’s why so many people find him funny.  Practice makes perfect :)

  3. *He eats ANYTHING.  And I mean ANYTHING.  Think.....cheeseburger from QT.  Or......nasty day old hot dog from a random gas station.  He’s had it all.  (I will give him credit though for discovering the QT taquito.  Those really aren’t so bad).

    * He can spot a 'traveling gypsy' out of nowhere.

    * He washes his cups BEFORE he uses them.  Even if it's at OUR HOUSE and they've JUST been cleaned in the dishwasher.

    * He's obsessed with styrofoam cups.

    * He idolizes Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.  Can you blame him?

    * Until we went on our Alaskan cruise...he pronounced the city Juneau --- as JUNE-A-OO.

    * He didn't kiss a girl until  he was 22.  {I like to tease him about it but I'm actually quite proud!}

    * He has a weird crush on Sarah Palin.  Which is gross.  And wrong.  Especially because we're liberal.

  4. *He’s not afraid to crack a semi-vulgar joke at any given time in front of ANYONE.  In fact, he loves shock value. He’ll do whatever it takes to make someone blush.

  5. *He can take a nap at 7:00 at night and wake up at 10pm.  Work for another 4 hours and go back to bed.  He’s a night owl.

  6. *He loves Will Ferrell as much as I do.  And Zach Galifanakis.

  7. *He’s always up for eating out.  I love him for that.  Rarely does he make me feel bad about not wanting to cook...which seems to be more often then not!

  8. *He cleans the toilets when they’re so nasty we can’t even stand to look at them anymore.  And when I say clean, he scrubs.

  9. *He doesn’t complain when I hire the cleaning lady.  He actually enjoys her as much as I do. (Thank goodness!)

    * He always knows when I'm in need of a soda.

    * He likes Disneyland {or pretends to} as much as me!

    *  He treats my family like gold.

    *  He treats his family like gold.

    * He treats our family like gold.

  10. *He would do ANYTHING to help ANYONE out. He is CONSTANTLY thinking of others.  Many a times, he has dropped what he was doing and gone to help a family member, a church friend or a neighbor and has put his work on hold.

    * He's a super hard worker.  Often times people thinks he's 'got it easy' working from home but he puts in A LOT of hours earning money for our family.  Granted...most of the time it's in his pjs but...can you blame him?

    * Since he works at home...he likes to tell people that 'sexual harrassment' is actually encouraged at his work place. OH BOY!

What more could I ask for in a husband?  Good looks. Funny sense of humor.  Kind. Compassionate.  Understanding. I could go on and on but it would probably raise the barf factor for the rest of you reading so I’ll leave it at that.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOE!!!

Loves.

Valentine decor {and a P.S.}

Our house is finally adorned in Valentine-ish everything.  One project down....a few more to craft.  Each year I like to add to my 'holiday' collection with a few new finds from here and there.  {Honestly....I can't resist!}

Here's a peek at some of my most favorite spots throughout our house.

Chipboard letters painted with Elmers Glue and then doused in red glitter.  The white frames were $3 from Wal-mart and then I just backed them with scrapbook paper I had on hand.

Cupid Love sign is from Home Goods.

LOVE picture holder is from Target.  From like 2 years ago.

Ikea candlesticks.
Milk bottle crate from a seasonal local boutique.

Heart picks are from the $ bins at Target.

LOVE blocks are from Target - $2.50 bins.
{They also spell out KISS and XOXO}.

Subway art from HERE. {Their free printables seriously rock}.
Notice how the left apothecary jar is running low on cinnamon hearts? Grant has had probably close to 200 of them.  Sneaky boy.

Valentine heart boxes from Home Goods.

I LOVE VALENTINE'S DAY!

P.S. I just noticed yesterday that I {almost} have 100 followers!  Umm...how did that happen?? When I started my blog I was pretty sure my mom would be the only one interested.  I'm sure I could make this blog a lot more pro-fesh but to be honest...I don't know how.  Or why.  So... to say THANK YOU for finding my little ole life a tad bit engaging.....I'll be doing a GIVEAWAY next week.  That's right.  A GIVEAWAY!!  Nothing major.  Since well, I don't consider my blog MAJOR.  But ya know...something FUN!  For all of my following peeps. Gracias.

Valentine Photo Sessions.

My cute nephew and niece.
My talented photographer sister Stephanie is scheduling VALENTINE PHOTO SHOOTS right now for both the Mesa and Chandler/Gilbert area.  My kids get these taken every year and they are SO MUCH FUN! We always make up Valentine cards with these pictures and send them to friends and loved ones.  Click HERE for all of the details.

Here are a couple of my favorite's from years past:

Cinnamon M&M Oatmeal Cookies.

The kids had friends over to play today and I've been wanting to try THIS recipe so it was the perfect excuse to make them!  I {love} the blog Picky-Palate.  Every time I've  tried one of her recipes, I've thoroughly enjoyed it.  These cookies are no exception.  They are YUM-MY!

As of about a week ago...Target still had their cinnamon M&Ms on clearance in their dwindling Christmas section. No worries though.  If you can't find them...regular M&Ms will do.  Also...the recipe calls for 1 TABLESPOON of vanilla.  This is not an error.  I think that's what makes them so tasty!!

'Being an Example' handout.

Today's lesson at church was #3 - "Following the Example of Jesus Christ".

I found these cute little containers at Scrapbooks, Etc. as well as the stickers that I placed on top.  {I just added the ribbon and felt pieces to 'jazz' em up a little}. In the manual, it told the story of a girl who was frustrated with her life and had been given the challenge to  live for 24 hours as if Christ were beside her.  This change made all the difference in her daily life.

So the purpose of these containers you ask?  The girls were challenged to take one piece of candy out each morning to eat.  As they did that, they were to remember the story from the lesson and think of how Christ's example...could influence them for good that day. They were also challenged...to treat each day as if our Savior were to walk beside them.

Valentine Wreath.

I was sick of my 'old' Valentine wreath and decided it was time for a new one.  Something a tad sassier.  More festive.  More spunk.

 Remember THIS wreath I made last Easter?  Well I wanted to find a way to re-use the white exterior frame for my Valentine wreath.  So here's what I came up with:

All items were purchased at Hobby Lobby:
* Feathered heart
*Glittered heart
*Love sign
* 2 heart picks

I made this in less than 20 minutes.  Simple Pimple.

I took my 2 heart picks and taped them together with packaging tape to make an 'arrow'.  I covered the packaging tape with red tulle...just to be safe that it wouldn't show.  I hot glued my new 'arrow' to the back of the feather heart.  Then...I hot glued the glittered heart on top of the feathered heart.  And then the LOVE sign...on top of that.  Wa-lah.  That's all it took.  Hobby Lobby, some imagination and a lot of hot glue.

More of my Valentine decor to come....

I {heart} Valentines!

Blast from the Past #4

For today's Blast from the Past I bring you a Zebra Print Baby Shower that I threw for my cute friend Tiffany.  She had had 3 boys {one of which was delivered on the side of the freeway IN HER CAR!} and she was now expecting a GIRL!  I was beyond thrilled for her!!

{Warning: My pics are not of the best quality on this post :)}

We served:

Hawaiian Ham Sandwiches {always a HIT!}...

And chicken spinach pasta salad.  I found the cute containers at Hobby Lobby and lined them with parchment paper.  All of the circle printables were purchased through The TomKat Studio {darling site}!

We had fruit kabobs with PINK fruit dip...

Oreo Truffles on lollipop sticks...

And Vanilla cupcakes!

Matching water bottles.

And as for the favors.....

I had my cute friend Kristen make up her INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS chocolate chip cookies.

I placed them in cookie bags {purchased at The ABC Cake Decorating store in Phoenix} with a sticker that said "Thanks, Sweetly".  I originally got that cute idea from THIS fun blog.

Random Wednesday {posted on Friday}.

Hold the applause....Random Wednesday is BACK!

* Every single time I hear THIS song....I cry.  I love this song.  And I have no idea why I always tear up when it's played.  One of my very FAVORITE versions is THIS one.

* Cannot WAIT for The Voice to start back up.  Cee-Lo's tiny arms and all.

* Does anyone else think that THIS guys is THE FUNNIEST guy on TV?  Joe and I nearly pee our pants every time he has a scene on Modern Family.

* Portlandia?  Kinda love it. So goofy it's funny. Not to mention Fred Armisen is in it who I think is pretty hi-lare.

* You know those sign flippers on the corner of major intersections that usually hold an arrow to some new subdivision.  Or some big sale? They deserve a raise.  They're good.  Really good.  Yesterday I saw one doing an all out dance routine...toe touches and all...flipping that wooden arrow up and around. They're someone I'd actually roll down my window and tip.  Sign holders...if you're reading this....get a tip jar.  You could make some serious extra cash.

* Why on earth is the song "My Favorite Things" by Maria on 'The Sound of Music' considered to be a 'Christmas' song?  Why??

* I've discovered that old people at the grocery store either LOVE young moms with young kids or HATE young moms with young kids.  Today...I came across a few who HATED me.  Which kinda gets my goat because didn't at one time...these same old people have kids themselves?  And didn't they at one time know what it was like to have your kids go bizerk in the middle of a grocery aisle?  I'm just sayin...

* Speaking of being a mom....last week I was THAT mom.  Ya know. The white trash mom who realizes her child has peed all over the slide at the mall play place and doesn't have anything to clean it up with so cowardly grabs her daughter and runs to the nearest bathroom in hopes of not getting caught.  To whomever's kid slid down that slide after London....I apologize.  I was....too embarrassed to come back with paper towels.  I was afraid that all the other moms might start throwing fruit snacks at me.

* Sometimes first thing in the morning, London will ask me if I have to go potty.  Because she smells my breath.  Isn't that gross?  And kinda funny?

* Tin-Tin.  Great movie.  But be prepared...it is {sorta} violent for a PG-er.  And the plot is almost as much for adults as it is for kids.  My boys LOVED it.  And Joe and I loved it. But I wouldn't take kids under 6.  It's also a movie I would recommend in 3D.  And trust me...I'm not a fan of 3D anything.  But this one would've been good.

Blast from the Past #3

Today's Blast from the Past brings you all things VALENTINE'S.  {Can you tell I'm in the Vday mood?}  Here are some fun things I've done in past years!

This is a quick and easy Teacher gift!  The popcorn containers always seem to be floating around in the Target $ bins.

Fill er up with your teacher's favorite soda, treat, some popcorn and a movie pass or two and you are set! {What teacher doesn't like getting free movie passes??}

Valentine's is my very favorite time of the year to make sugar cookies.  {Frosting HEARTS are the EASIEST possibly holiday shape!}

I like to pick up plates when I see them for cheap in different holiday colors.  That way, when you deliver your treats, there's a little extra 'sumthin' for your friends to keep.

Another easy Valentine idea:

Small bags of Jelly belly's with the above phrase.  Or as Joe would say...PUN.  He thinks every one of my treats/gift giving ideas revolves around a PUN.  I think he may be right.

Having two boys on Valentine's Day gets kinda tricky.  So many of the Valentine-ish stuff is all pink and covered in glitter and girly stuff.  Which is why I thought I had hit the jackpot when I saw these shovels at Michaels one year:

Boyish AND cute.  Just attach a bag of candy hearts or your favorite treat and you are good to go!

I consider myself to be somewhat of a wrapping paper connoisseur.  {Just one of many addictions}.  One year I scored a bunch of red and white polka dot paper in the $ bins at Target {yes...I frequent those bins on an almost daily basis}.  I knew I had to do something with them for Valentine's and so here's what I came up with:

A candy bar WRAPPED in the paper with a little added detail.  I made the flower out of a heart shaped punch. Super simple.

One year I found these all white pails at The Dollar Tree.  I know when I find something with a solid color like white...I just HAVE to find it.  There is SO much you can do with it.

I added some alphabet rub-ons....

...filled the bucket with cinnamon gummy hearts {yum!}....

....and wrapped it up with a big bow!

I delivered these to the people that I visit teach one year!  A simple and cheap little sumthin-sumthin!

Every year I have my sister Stephanie take some Valentine pictures of my kids to send out in cards to family and friends.  Love these 3 yay-hoos!  They make Valentine's SO much FUN!
