Young Womens Halloween Party.

Last night was our Young Womens Halloween Dinner.
Most came dressed in costume...and it was a good thing as there was a prize involved.

{Aren't my girls the cutest?}

We served Corn Chowder and Chicken Enchilada soup in pumpkin shaped bread bowls.

L to R: Pumpkin branches from Trader Joes; Silverware served in a coffin; Pumpkin bread bowls; place settings.

Take home favors consisted of caramel corn and THIS poem...

We served VOMIT as an appetizer....
{Ok ok...it's spinach dip}

....and Vampire cupcakes for dessert...

{Idea from my talented Sister-in-Law}.

We played two different games.

Wrap the mummy....

...and Sis Coombs' Halloween Candy Quiz.

This one was a lot of fun.  There was a list of 30 words describing different types of candy or candy bars  and you had to guess what the REAL answers were.
 For example:

A large amount of money = 100,00 Grand
Dry Cows = Milk Duds
Extremely warm color - Red Hots

Prizes were give to those who scored highest.

UPDATE 10/27/15: You can now download a FREE copy of my CANDY QUIZ HERE!

We ended the evening with a short 'Halloween-ish' devotional all about missionary work.

My sweet counselor was in charge of that and she did such a great job.
She had brought 6 different big Halloween cut-outs of 'scary' things and then on the back, she had written 'SCARY' myths and rumors that the girls had heard about sister missionaries in the past.

With the new announcement that girls can now serve missions at the age of 19...we wanted to talk about it and  dispel any past doubts or thoughts about it.

Myths and Rumors included:

* The only girls who go on missions are the one's who can't get married.

* Only ugly girls serve missions.

* The only girls that go on missions are the one's that don't have any plans or goals in life.

* "All of my guy friends will just be getting off their missions as I'm starting to leave on mine".

* I'll just be too old when I get back

* All the good guys will be taken when I get back.

As each girl read what was on the back of their card, we talked about it and how it just isn't true and then the girls tore up the cut-out and threw it on the ground.

Now that girls can serve missions when they're 19 really changes things up!
So much excitement surrounding it!!

Serving a mission as a girl now....in fact....isn't SCARY at all!

Halloween Leadership Treats.

I wanted to tell my awesome YW leaders how much I appreciate them.
One of the many reasons that I LOVE my calling is because of them.
With our Halloween party tonight...I wanted to do something Halloween-ish, so this is what I came up with.

Super simple....here's how to do it:

Make up a super easy super yummy carmel dip.

Consists of:

1 tub of already made carmel dip from the grocery store
mixed with
1 package of cream cheese
Top with Heath Bar topping.

Get a nice juicy green apple

Wrap it up with gauze tape

Add candy eyes
{any type of fake eyes would do here}

Pair it up with the dip

Add a tag that matches the 'mummy' theme

And wrap em up with cellophane and a cute bow.

Deliver to your amazing leaders that help you so much along the way!

That's it folks!

Can you believe Halloween is TOMORROW?

Halloween Invitations.

We're having a Hallowen Bash for all of our Young Women Tuesday night at my house.

Invitations were a must
{Ok...not REALLY...but I like receiving invitations to pretty much ANYTHING and...
it gave me an excuse to make sugar cookies.}

So Saturday was spent baking away...one of my very favorite things.

I wrapped up each one in a cellophane bag and then placed them in these...

I created the invitation through Microsoft Word and then printed it out onto sticker paper so I could place it right on the front of the bags.

Chevron Bags found HERE.

{I'll be sharing my sugar cookie recipe later this week.  It's my mom's and IT IS GOOD!}

Drug Abuse Lesson Handout.

Today I had the opportunity of teaching my sweet Laurels Lesson #39 on:

We had a great conversation and it truly made me realize just how prevalent  drug usage surrounds our youth these days. Yet, another reason I feel blessed to have the Word of Wisdom in my life.

I wasn't sure what to come up with as far as a handout, so I took a trip to my very favorite candy store Sweeties and lo and behold I stumbled upon these Toxic Waste Sour candies.

Perfect, I thought!

I printed the handout onto sticker paper {you can find these with the address labels at Wal-mart...just look for the package that says FULL SIZE 8 1/2 x 11} and then cut it to fit onto the backs of the candy jars.

If you'd like a copy of this handout, please follow my blog and then click HERE to print!

Create Your Own Sunshine.

It's been a busy busy weekend so far.
Planning LOTS of fun things for the next couple of weeks.

Our Young Women in Excellence program is one of them.
I'm handing these invitations out tomorrow.
Take a peek:

I {sorta} have a problem with just handing out an invitation.

So...I dressed em up a tad.

...because who doesn't LOVE yellow gumballs, right?
{Smile}.

Invitations {and a sweet matching party pack!} were purchased HERE.
I love em because they're totally customizable.

My very favorite part of this invite is the quote from Gordon B. Hinckley at the bottom:

"Stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight."

Great advice, indeed.

Halloween Ideas.

Pinterest + Holidays = not such a good thing.
I become obsessed. Very. Obsessed.

I'm hosting a Halloween Dinner for our Young Women on Tuesday night.
I've been scouring Pinterest, of course, for ideas.
It's going to be frightfully fun.

Here are some of my favorite finds around Pinterest this week...
all things HALLOWEEN of course!

This Weekend:

* We had breakfast with my cousin and her kids who were in town visiting from SLC, UT.

We LOVE seeing our out of state relatives!

* Fri. night I had the opportunity of hanging out with a few hundred of the
  very best teenagers I know.

They kicked off the weekend by playing Olympic style games at the Barney Sports Complex.
{I may have peed a little watching the dodgeball with frisbees tournament}.
Classic.

*Soccer games.
*Football games.

Carson played goalie and ROCKED it.
He was awarded with the game day medal he played so well.

Grant's team rocked it as well.  They're undefeated and tied for first place.
SO much fun to watch!

* Sat. afternoon I had the pleasure of cheering on the fabulous youth and leaders from my stake who walked 14 MILES...yes...14!!! from the Mesa temple to the new Gilbert temple. They are rockstars!!!

Cannot wait for this temple to be finished!

* Dinner with Joe at The Keg.
Yum-My! Hands down the very best prime rib around.
Did you know that for your birthday, they send you a gift certificate in the mail for a $25 meal?
It's true.

* We attended Comedy Central's Indecision 2012 show live in Scottsdale, AZ.

To say that my husband LOVES The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is an understatement.
When he heard their crew was coming to town, he bought tickets asap.
It was mostly an evening of stand up comedy but THIS was the guy that truly brought us to tears...we died laughing!

* Churchey Church.
So uplifting.
THIS song was sung by two men in our ward...in Portugese.
It's one of my very favorite hymns ever.
So touching...EVEN in a different language.

* 2 hour UN-INTERUPPTED nap
Wa-hoo-zle!

* Sunday Dinner at Joe's parents house.
Joe's mom is pretty darn amazing. She had arranged in her guest room, everything that was needed for each member of our family to make up a 72 hour kit. How awesome is that?  All we need to do now is add water and we are good to go! So thankful for her efforts.

*Inspirational Youth Conference fireside.

We listened to THIS ASU football player and his wife speak.
It was inspiring, uplifting and so much more.  So happy to have been apart of it.

My spiritual bucket was most definitely filled this weekend.
{Blessed indeed}.

Word of Wisdom handout.

Here's what we handed out for our Laurels today.

Lesson 38:

It's not the fanciest tag I've ever made, as it was whipped up in a total of like 5 minutes.
But you'll get the jist!

Halloween soap.

Bath and Body Works has all of their Halloween style soap on sale right now for 50% off.
{Score!}
It makes em each just $2.75 a piece.

I picked up a handful and gave some to the boys' teachers this morning.

Wrap em up with cellophane and a piece of ribbon and you've got yourself a cute little holiday-ish gift!

Breakfast Recipes.

As promised...here are two of my very favorite BREAKFAST recipes.
They're always a hit whenever they're served.
ENJOY!

Breakfast Casserole

24 oz. frozen potatoes
1/2 cup melted butter
1 1/2 cup Monterey Jack cheese
1 1/2 cup cheddar cheese
1 1/2 cup cubed ham
{Just ask your local grocery store deli to 'cube' the ham for you when purchasing}
1/2 tsp. salt
8 eggs
1 cup evaporated milk

Put potatoes in bottom of 9x13 pan.  Pour butter on the potatoes.  Layer cheese and ham.  Bake at 425 for 25 minutes.

Beat eggs, milk and salt.  Add to above. Bake at 350 {very important!} for additional 20-25 minutes.

Cinnamon Roll Casserole

2 packages Pillsbury tube cinnamon rolls
1 cube butter
1 cup brown sugar

Pour 1/2 cube melted butter into a 9x13 pan.  Sprinkle 1/2 cup brown sugar over the butter.  Cut cinnamon rolls into chunks. {I always cute them into 4 triangles} and drop into 9x13 pan.  Drizzle the other 1/2 cup of melted butter on top of the cinnamon rolls.  Sprinkle with the other 1/2 cup brown sugar.

Bake according to the directions on the cinnamon roll package.
{I always find that my casserole takes about 25 minutes total to cook}.

Cook until edges are golden brown and drizzle with the icing that comes inside the tube of rolls.
{Heat for about 10 seconds in the microwave before drizzling}.

A Great Article.

Have you ever read an article that just speaks straight to your heart?
I have.
Many times.

I came across THIS article from our church Ensign a few weeks ago and it made me want to make my home a better place.

"There is no place other than the home where true and lasting happiness can be found in this life".

"Parents have the duty to be what they would have their children become in regard to courtesy, sincerity, temperance, and courage to do right at all times.  Example is far more potent than precept."

I couldn't agree more.
If you have a minute..read what else Elder Stapley has to say about
TEACHING RIGHTEOUSNESS IN THE HOME.

I loved all of it.
And I ESPECIALLY love who I get to share MY home with.

Thankful, indeed.

This Weekend...

...was a 'get er done' type of weekend.

We:

Cleaned up our back yard.
The kids have refused to play back there because of the 2 black widow spiders spotted last week.
It was time to spray everything down and get it ready for this beautiful fall/winter weather of ours.

Most people do SPRING cleaning....
Arizonans do FALL cleaning.

I picked weeds, cleaned windows, cleaned screens and threw out any un-necessary random toys that may have been left out under the trampoline since April.

It felt good.

Joe planted our winter grass.
It's a sore subject and one I won't get into.
I'll just say this.  Next year...I'm paying someone to do it...before Joe finds out.
We'll all be happier in the long run.
{Smile}.

Soccer Practice
Football Practice
Soccer Games
Football Games

Naps....interrupted.

Errands....bleh!

Craft room cleaned out and organized.
It's so nice to be able to see the floor in there again.
Let the holiday crafting begin!!

Churchey-church.
Taught THIS lesson.

Roast 'beast' as Carson calls it for Sunday dinner.
All the works.
Mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli, corn and rolls.

Yummy chocolate chip cookies over at a fun friend's house for our Sunday night entertainment.

******************************************************

Only 2 more days until Fall Break is over.
As much as I've LOVED having my little kiddies home...
I MAY just be doing a little jig come Wednesday morning.

Truth and Virtue Lesson handout.

Today I had the privilege of teaching my sweet Young Women

I wanted the girls to remember the 2 questions to ask themselves when placed with a question or temptation in life.

Does it invite me to do good?
Will it strengthen my faith in Christ?

The Xtremes Sour candy were found at Albertsons....2 for $1.00.
You can download my handout for free HERE.

34.

Yesterday I turned the big 3-4.
In some ways I feel exactly that old.
In other ways...I feel like I just graduated high school.
{Sigh}.

Regardless...I wouldn't change where I'm at in my life for anything else in the world.
So 34....you look good to me!

The day was celebrated with family, friends, shopping and LOTS of eating.
All of my FAVORITE things!

I woke up to a sweet little surprise on my doorstep...

...my cute friends were at it again.
They know me so well!

Joe and I piled the kids in the car and we headed out to breakfast.
My first FREE meal of the day.

It did not disappoint.
They have some of the very  best Diet Coke in town.

We snarfed down our food, picked up the babysitter and I dropped the fam off at home.

Next stop....shopping with my cute friend Jamie.
We hit some of my favorite joints...
Home Goods, Kirkland's, Designer Blvd...
sooooo nice to shop without kiddos.

Lunch was with some of my very favorite friends in the whole wide world.
Yum-My!!!

My friends spoiled me...again...with a generous gift card to Hobby Lobby.
{I told you...they know me TOO WELL!}
Lots of laughs and good conversation.

Came home to my kids who had sucked ALL of the helium outta my balloons.
Oh boy.

5:30 rolled around and Joe and I were off to dinner.
{Yes...babysitter numero dos for the day}.
And yes...I told you...the day revolved around eating.

Gosh, I love this place.
Such yummy food with a unique atmosphere.

Joe and I shopped some more after dinner.
Most girls like diamonds and pearls as a gift.
Me???
I wanted to go to Home Depot so Joe could buy the stuff needed to plant our winter grass.
{I kinda have a thing for super green grass}.

And in AZ..you HAVE to plant winter grass for this to happen.  Joe never looks forward to doing it. Ever. But...since it was my birthday...he conceded as it was my one and only wish.

We headed home, snuggled the kids, and I stayed up late watching

Just the way I like things.
Couldn't have been a more perfect day.

Best Ever Oreo Cupcakes

Alright folks
Fasten your seatbelts.
This recipe is a NEW HIT!

I {may} have eaten 1 or 4 of these babies.
I made some up for a dear friend of ours who had a birthday last weekend.
His wife said he LOVES Oreos.
So Oreos it was.
This recipe is honestly my new fave now....right up there with THIS one.

I found the recipe on....you guessed it....Pinterest.
Spotted HERE by a gal that goes by the name of Food Snots.
{I like her already}.

Enjoy.
And make extra.

BEST EVER OREO CUPCAKES

1 package Oreo Cookies, regular size

1 package Mini Oreo Cookies, for decoration (optional)

1 package chocolate cake mix (mix according to directions on box)
8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
1/2 cup butter (1 stick), room temperature
3 3/4 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
cupcake liners

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix packaged cake mix according to directions (do not bake). Line cupcake tins with liner, place a regular size Oreo cookie in the bottom of each liner.

Take 1/2 of remaining cookies and chop coarsely and add to cake mix. Fill the cupcake tins. Bake for 15 minutes (or according to box directions). While cupcakes are baking make the frosting.

Cream together butter and cream cheese. Add vanilla, then add powdered sugar slowly until blended well. Chop remaining regular-sized Oreos very fine (I put the cookies in the food processor instead of trying to chop them up super fine and it worked out really well). Add to frosting. After cupcakes have cooled frost and decorate with Mini Oreos.

Halloween decor ala Coombs.

I LOVE decorating my house this time of year.
Each year I try and buy a new little something to add to my Halloween collection.

Here's a peek at some of my favorite spots in our house this fall:

Every holiday deserves a countdown.
This one is an ADDED bonus because it's got candy in each pocket.

Who says skeleton's can't be glammed up?
These two pieces adorn my front porch.
{Yes...I decorate my front porch too.}

Happy Haunting this Season!
{Mwah, ha,ha...}
