January Visiting Teaching Handout - The Family Proclamation.

Anyone else in disbelief that the holidays are over?
I cannot believe that it's going to be a NEW month, let alone a NEW year!!!

Holy Moly!

January's Visiting Teaching lesson is on:

Seriously.
How lucky are we to have this nugget of goodness in our lives?

Fun Fact: The Family Proclamation was first given by President Gordon B. Hinckley back in 1995.

I found a little quote given by Neal A. Maxwell, on this very topic.  It talks about JEWELS. There are a number of different things you can do with my handouts this month.

{There are 2 handouts to download. An 8x10 Family Proclamation and a tag with Elder Maxwell's quote.}

Find some 'candy' JEWELry and attach it to my tag.
{Ring pops and candy necklaces can be found at local gas stations, grocery stores or the $ store.}

Print out my 8x10 Family Proclamation, roll it up, tie it with a bow and add a candy JEWEL necklace.

FRAME my Family Proclamation - - -
cheap frames can be found at Wal-mart and the Dollar Tree.

I made this up as a jpeg so it can be printed out at home on a regular piece of cardstock OR at places like Costco as an 8x10.

I love the message within the Family Proclamation.
I've printed mine out and it will set it upon our shelf with our family picture right next to it.

Have I mentioned how much I LOVE my family?!?
I do.

2 Cute New Year's Eve Ideas for Kids:

Image
Loooooove this one so much!
Sometimes sparkling cider is a little too strong of a flavor for kids so why not toast the New Year with MILK and COOKIES?!?!  My kids would adore this idea.

Idea from Hodge Podge Craft

Throw together a soda bar for the kiddos.
Lemons, limes, cherries...you can literally add anything!
What kid wouldn't love this?!!

A Bean Dip Recipe you MUST try!

Image
On Christmas Eve we noshed on mexican food at my parent's house.  Mexican food is pretty much my husband + my kids + MY favorite food on the planet.

I tried out a new bean dip recipe from my cute niece's cookbook and it was a HUGE hit!

I promise you won't be able to dip just ONCE.

ENJOY!!!

Warm Bean Dip
{Would be great for a New Year's Eve party!}

1 - 8 oz package cream cheese
1 cup sour cream
2 cans of refried beans
1 packet taco seasoning
1 cup Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Mix together cream cheese and sour cream in a large bowl. { I just threw it in my Kitchen-Aid and mixed it together}. Mix in refried beans until combined.  Stir in taco seasoning.  Spray an 8x11 baking pan with cooking spray. Spread mixture evenly into the bottom of the baking dish. Sprinkle the top with both cheeses.  Bake for about 20 minutes.

This {Christmas} Weekend:

It sure is a good thing these 3 are cute because collectively - - they didn't fall asleep on Christmas Eve until 3:00 AM. And they were up at 6:30 AM.

But minus Joe and I's sleep deprivation - - we managed to have a great Christmas morning.

There were lots of Legos, Shopkins and Xbox things unwrapped.

Kids really do make things magical on Christmas.

We had our traditional Christmas breakfast of cinnamon roll casserole and sausage and egg casserole and then Joe and I may have fallen back asleep for a few hours while the kids played with their new loot.

{Why is Christmas morning SO tiring?!?}

* Christmas afternoon we headed over to my parents house.

We had our annual cousins gift exchange...
The Lamoreaux family cousins
...and us adults opened up our gifts as well.

Joe happily scored an ASU shirt from my dad....

...which shocked us ALL because my dad is a HUGE Utah Utes fan and constantly teases Joe about being an ASU fan.
{Christmas sure brings out the LOVE in all of us, haha.}

We ate the most delicious ham dinner with all of the fixings and then sent my parents on a little treasure hunt to find their gifts from all of us siblings.

Couples that bike together -  - hopefully don't crash together, right?!

We ended the day back at home watching 'A Christmas Story' with our kiddos...laughing at scenes we've seen probably over 100 times. {Why is it that EVERY time I watch this movie - - I hear new lines? I promise I've seen this movie probably more than any other movie in the history of time.}

* Our Saturday morning looked a lot like this...

....and this was just ONE part of the mess.
Sigh.
Nothing like the Day after Christmas slumps.

I pretty much parked my fanny on the couch for the day {I've been fighting off a stomach bug -- boo!} and this was my view....

Boys on the Xbox in their new chairs and London playing with her new toys in the living room.
It was quite relaxing and nice.

I perked up a little towards the evening and so Joe and I ventured out on a date night. {It's been awhile!}

We saw....

Image

...and laughed our heads off.
{How can you not, really? Will Ferrell is my FAVE!}

We ate HERE afterwards.

Their pazookie is hands down the best around.
And boy did I enjoy it going down because.....
when we got back home...it came right back up.

Sighhhhhh.

The stomach bug can officially take a FLYING HIKE!

* The boys went off to church on Sunday while London and I laid around.  And then when they got back....there was even MORE laying around...

The Christmas season officially wore us out!

Oh and also - - the AZ CARDINALS WON!!!!!
Woo-hooo.
What a great game.

My favorite thing about the Cardinals winning?
{Besides them actually winning, of course?}

Half price drinks at Sonic ALL DAY the next day + half price pizza at Papa Johns the next day.

On tap for this week:

Absolutely. Nothing.
And I could not be MORE thrilled.

Christmas Recipes aka What's Cookin in the Coombs Kitchen this week.

Raise your hand if one of your favorite things about Christmas is ALL of the yummy food that comes along with it.

{Wait. Please tell me I'm not the only one who looks forward to food like this.}

I've got so many yummy recipes to whip up this week that I thought I would share!

First up - - our Coombs family Christmas party is tomorrow night and we're all bringing appetizers to share.
{I love me a good APP! and I don't mean Angry Birds, ha.}

I'm bringing meatballs with sauce in the crockpot plus this yummy dip shared with me by my dear friend Melissa a couple of years back.

It. Is. SOOOOO. Good.

Bacon Cheese Dip

2 - 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese
1 - 12 oz. pkg. shredded Swiss cheese
chopped green onions
1 cup of mayonnaise
Hormel bacon bits {or fresh bacon, cooked and chopped}

Mix all ingredients together and spread into a pie pan. Top with bacon bits.  Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

Serve with tortilla chips or crackers.

For Christmas Eve we are heading over to my parents house and having mexican food.  I'm making up a bean dip {not sure what kind - - anyone out there have a good recipe for that?} plus our very favorite green salsa.  SO EASY! Just throw it all in a food processor.

Recipe HERE.

Every Christmas morning we make our Cinnamon Roll Casserole..... {my kids snarf this one down!}

Recipe HERE

And then for Christmas dinner, we'll be back over at my parents house having the traditional ham and potatoes dinner.

Joe and I loved the sides I made for Thanksgiving SO much that I'm making and bringing them again. They're a hit!

Would love for you guys to share YOUR Christmas recipes with me.  Pretty please?!?

This Weekend:

* Friday morning started out with a stomach bug for London.

This meant LOTS of time spent on the couch with her watching the 'Dennis the Menace Christmas' movie.

The boys and I ventured our that night for haircuts, shoppping, dinner at Red Robin and then we also attempted to ride my nephew's hoverboard.

And by 'attempted' I mean.....I was absolutely horrible and almost peed my pants trying to do so and may have said a few expletives as I crashed and burned on my sister's kitchen floor.

Those things are DANGEROUS!

* Saturday morning we attended the most special baptism for a dear family friend of ours. There was SO MUCH LOVE inside of the chapel that morning, my heart wanted to burst!

GRATEFUL to have been apart of it.

Lunch afterwards with some of the baptism attendees HERE.

* The kids were at a babysitters house for the rest of the day and I managed to conquer 99% of my wrapping for Christmas.  I felt VERY accomplished. {And why do I love wrapping stuff SO so much? Given the option between a gift bag and a box to wrap - - - I always choose the box.}

* Churchey-church on Sunday.
I always love the Sunday before Christmas and the songs, talks and messages that go along with it.

This pic before Sacrament meeting was no small feat.
There may have been weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth 5 minutes beforehand at our house. And in our car.

This was one of those mornings where I was reminded of this funny gem my friend sent me earlier this week:

Who can relate?!

* Naps afterwards, spaghetti and meatballs for dinner and watching the AZ Cardinals WIN! after that.

On tap for this week:

* Grant turns 11!!!! {How is this even possible?}

* Last minute odds and ends Christmas shopping

* Grandma Marilyn's Coombs family Christmas party

* Christmas!!!!!!

Last minute Christmas ideas for friends and neighbors.

It's that time of the year where you're scrounging around for last minute gift ideas for friends and neighbors, right??

{One week from today is CHRISTMAS! can you EVEN believe it???}

Good news: I'm making it easier for you.

This morning I've rounded up some of my favorite ideas from years past and these are ALL easy to throw together.

My mom handed these cute little 'Cake in a Mug' jars out last year and they were a huge hit.

Details HERE.

She, of course, went the extra mile and gave them with a side of almonds and hot fudge too.

One of my very MOST POPULAR posts on the blog right now is this cute little TOILET PAPER idea, given to me by my cute friend Carrie a few years back.

Is this not the funniest/cutest/most clever gift ever?!
Details HERE.

Last year my cute friend Emily dropped this off for me....

SOOOOO clever and cute.

One year, our family made up a mix of all of our favorite Christmas tunes....

If you're in a super big rush and have some soap on hand - - I have a tag just for you in my Etsy shop.  All you'll need to do is print, cut and attach with ribbon.

This & That + a Christmas Teachers Luncheon.

Apparently, my immune system did NOT get the memo that this is NOT the week to get sick.

Thats me...au-natural...waiting in the dr's office with not one but TWO heavy coats on, breathing into my sleeves for warmth because I had the chills, a fever and was SO cold!

After a $75 copay at the Urgent care {UgH!} - - I was told it's 'just a virus' and was prescribed an antibiotic IN CASE it turns into bronchitis, pneumonia or a sinus infection.  Oh and the dr told me TO WAIT 3-4 DAYS to see if it gets worse before filling the prescription.

Ummmmm...I'm sorry??

Who on earth has TIME to WAIT!? 3 days to get EVEN MORE sick than they already are??

You better believe I marched myself right to the pharmacy that morning and filled the prescription and started myself on it.

Why does being sick always come at the MOST inconvenient times?

Alas, I am {somewhat} on the mend and this sweet card from London made me instantly feel LOTS better.

Translation: Dear Mommy, I hope you feel better soon.  Since you are sick go ahead and smack your sickness away. Hope you don't get pneumonia like Carson did.  Hope your voice feels better so me, Carson and Grant can hear you.

Can you even????

Anyhoozle - - enough about me.....

The show must go on...and it DID! today with our annual Christmas teachers luncheon that I was in charge of.
{Gosh, I love our sweet teachers!}

Made this backdrop with letters cut out from my Silhouette machine. {Have I mentioned how much I LOVE that thing?}

We had Moreno's cater the event and we had everything from enchiladas and tamales to street tacos, beans, rice, chips and salsa.

Oh and I ordered pies from Village Inn and they were a huge HIT! If you have not ever had pies from there - - you MUST!

That Candy Cane pie might just be my new fave.
It's got an oreo crust and OMG!!!! Sooooooo yummy!

We also did a raffle and gave away 5 - $25 gift cards.

Oh - - and note to self: Never leave my phone unattended again! ;) Thank you 3rd grade team for the laugh!
