This Weekend:

* Friday morning I met 2 of my favorite lady friends for breakfast HERE.

This place is hands down one of my faves.
Plus - they serve their Diet Coke in EXTRA large cups so that's always a bonus.

* I ran errands and of course had to stop by a Goodwill because it was in the proximity. My obsession is really getting out of hand.

* I watched these 2 cute kiddies for my friend on Friday afternoon...

Can you even stand their cuteness?!

* Friday night date night HERE with some fun friends from our ward. We walked out of the restaurant when we were done and it was POURING down rain.

A beautiful sight here in the dry desert!

* Saturday morning I attended our Stake Relief Society Refugee Service Project.

A lot of preparation had been put into this activity and I am SO amazed at how well it went. It truly was miraculous.

Did you know that.....80% of refugees that come to our country are women and children?

One of the donations we asked for was clothing.
{When refugees arrive to our country they literally only have the clothes on their back.  That is it!}

As people entered, I greeted them and told them where to put their clothing. As I saw this sight...I got a little teary eyed!!!......

I LOVE that picture of the Savior in the background.
I truly felt that He was smiling down on our service efforts.

Isn't this what life is all about anyways???
Helping those in need?

We made quilts, wreaths, assembled cleaning kits, backpacks with school supplies, tied quilts, wrote notes and sorted clothes.

And guess what?! We accomplished it ALL within 2 hours.

It was so awesome.

Our stake is filled with some of the finest women I know.

* Saturday night I kicked at home and did super fun stuff like laundry and cleaning.

Joe went with his brother and saw THIS movie....
...and RAVED about it!

My husband is a sucker for good indie films and he said this one did not disappoint.  Made me wish I'd have gone with him...instead of chosen to do the laundry...sigh.
{Seriously...what was I thinking?}

* Churchey-church on Sunday.

Fingers crossed for another big rainstorm tonight!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Coming tomorrow....
My NEW August Visiting Teaching Handout{s}!!!!!

What a week!
The kids are officially back in school and I am officially running in and out of Target kid-less.

Wandering aimlessly through stores is one of my very favorite things to do.

Wouldn't this cute apron/chef hat set from Target be so fun to give to a little girl for her birthday? I think I may just pick one up and save it for London for Christmas.

Over at the Dollar Tree...

If you're having a CAR themed party - - these would be oh so fun to include as part of the festivities.

They also had these cute little milk glasses that would go perfectly with a COOKIES and MILK themed party.

2017 stuff already?!
I do like the looks of these calendars....and for only a buck!

Over at Hobby Lobby...

I don't know what I love most about these pumpkins....
The stripes? or the gold?
They're already 40% off, too!

How much do you LOVE this quote?!?
Goes along perfectly with our new family motto.

I'm a Costco girl but every once and awhile I like to tag along with my parents to Sams Club.

That's where I spotted these CUTE glass beverage dispensers.

And this pretty dish set had me at 'melamine'.

I know it's really too early to start thinking about Halloween just yet but...

Michaels is killing it with these wreaths!
The above one even lights up!
Please go on sale soon.

RECIPES from our Back to School Dinner.

As promised - Tonight I'm sharing ALL of the recipes I whipped up for our Annual Coombs Family Back to School Dinner.

Each dish included some type of 'cherry' something or other {to go with our theme} which the kids thought was SO fun.

{These seriously had the BEST flavor ever!}

4-6 chicken breasts
1 bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce
{ours is Sweet Baby Rays}
3/4 cup of Cherry Coke
1/2 cup brown sugar

I sprinkled my brown sugar right on top of the chicken breasts and then added the Cherry Coke and then the BBQ sauce.  Cook all day on low or on High for about 5 hours.

Shred, add salt to taste and serve on little Hawaiian rolls.

Cherry Fluff

1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
1 (21 oz.) can cherry pie filling
1 (20 oz.) can crushed pineapple, well drained
1 (8 oz.) container Cool Whip

Mix all together and chill before serving.

1 bag of spinach
3-4 hard boiled eggs, sliced
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
1 cucumber chopped
red onion, chopped
2 handfuls of cherry tomatoes

Add your favorite dressing -
Ranch and Poppyseed are good with this one!

1 yellow cake mix - made according to directions on box

Once cake has been cooked and cooled - - poke holes all over it with the end of a wooden spoon.

Make up 1 box of cherry Jello according to package. Once you add the hot and cold water to the jello mix -- stir well and then pour all over the cake so it seeps down into the bottom.

Top cake with 1 carton of Cool Whip and let refrigerate for about 4 hours before serving.

Our 2016 Annual Back to School Dinner

Last Sunday we held our annual Coombs Family Back to School dinner. This fun tradition has become a family FAVORITE every time the new school year rolls around.

2015 HERE / 2014 HERE / 2013 HERE

Each year at this dinner - we present a NEW Family Motto to our children.  Our Family Motto gives us something to FOCUS on throughout the year.  It's also usually something that can be memorized and repeated as needed
{i.e. as encouragement or motivation}.

Our Family Motto is also really good at helping us remember  what's MOST important in life.

The theme we chose for our 2016-17 school year is:

Taken from Moroni 7:46-47 {found in The Book of Mormon}.

The word CHARITY has been on my mind A LOT! lately.

And don't we ALL want to emulate that?

In a world full evil -- I feel like there is STILL so much GOOD to be done.

I want to teach my kids what it means to BE and DO good unto others.

I want them to FEEL the happiness that comes from having charity and serving those in need.

I feel like NOW {more than ever!} is the time to teach my children this principle. CHERRY themed CHERRY-ty dinner was born!

When we present these themes to our kids, I like to have something to help them remember it with.
{Hence - the cherries because sounds like CHARITY, right?}

I picked up loads of fresh cherries on sale at Sprouts and included them with each place setting.

I also scored these cute little red tins on clearance at Michaels for 70 cents. I whipped up some cherry tags to go on top and then placed each of the kids' very favorite candy inside.

Carson = Salt Water Taffy
Grant = Sweedish fish
London = Starburst

Our menu for the evening included EVERYTHING cherry!

{Recipes for everything to follow tomorrow}.

These cherry gummies were found at Sprouts and I think I ate about 20 of them.
{And I'm not even a big fan of gummies}.

I also like to give the kids something to keep in their bedroom to remind them of our new family theme. These frames were the perfect touch.

White for London...

And black for the boys...

I also created a 'CHERRY-ty' jar.

Every night before we go to bed - - we are going to fill out a piece of paper with something nice that we did for someone that day.

On Sunday's - - we'll read all of the slips out loud to everyone. I hope this little activity gets the kids to THINK throughout the day of nice things to do for others.
{Fingers crossed}.

They were so giddy throughout the entire dinner.
I just love seeing how excited they get about life.

We also had the kids come up with some names of people to deliver fresh baskets of cherries to that night.

Ya never know who could use a little pick me up, right?

I loved hearing them decide who to bring them to.

These 3 are my heart and soul.
Joe and I are so blessed to be their parents.
I feel so grateful to be able to teach and learn from them.

Last Sunday at church one of the speakers said:
"We bless our posterity through our actions".

I sure love that.
I know that MY own life has been blessed because of MY parent's actions.  I hope that one day MY own kids feel the same way about me.

This Weekend:

* Friday morning...
London went to Joe's parents house to play and the boys went to my parents house to play.

I had the morning ALL to myself.

It was pretty awesome.

I grocery shopped {LOVE Win-co but hate that I never know where anything is} and stopped by the nearest Goodwill because....I'm obsessed.

Sometimes though I don't quite understand Goodwill's pricing.  Take for instance this Twilight lunchbox...

I wouldn't pay that even IF I was a fan of the books.

* Friday night we got to hang out with my boyfriend.

Is he not the cutest little 3 month old EVER?
And he's such a dream to watch, too!

Joe brought home Popeye's chicken {YuM!}, Carson went to a swim party and the rest of us just ooh-ed and aah-ed at the above handsome baby.

* Saturday we had one last hoor-ah with the kids before school starts back up and we went to see...

I can't even begin to tell you how much I LOVED this movie.
Back when I was a kid, this was hands down one of my very favorite books to read.

It really is magical.
I rememer being so enthralled and the movie is no different.

* Saturday night we attended our friend's 40th birthday party.
These sweet friends live right around the corner from us and while we were walking home....Joe and I both reflected on how dang lucky we are to have such wonderful people in our lives.  Family, friends, ward members....we are so blessed.

* Churchey-church on Sunday.
Such wonderful speakers in Sacrament meeting today.
I left feeling uplifted and edified and ready to face the new week.

* Sunday night we had our Annual Coombs Family Back to School Dinner.....

I CANNOT WAIT! to share with you our 2016-17 family motto plus all of the details, photos, printables and recipes from this evening.

It's one of my favorite nights of the whole entire year.
{Any guesses as to what it was all about??}
