This Weekend:

* Friday morning breakfast.

{Also - why don't they put sesame seeds on BOTH the top AND bottom of the bagel? I feel like I get jipped.}

* I headed over to my parents house afterwards to type up some more of my Grandpa's WW2 letters.

These letters HAVE MY HEART!
I wish I could spend ALL DAY// EVERY DAY typing them up.

* Afterschool slushies with friends...

...because it was something like 115 degrees outside.
{I wish I were exaggerating.}

* Picked up Cubby from his grooming appointment.

Why is he so handsome?
And why am I so obsessed?

* Date night with fun friends HERE.
Their Flying Saucer is where it's at.

We tried a new dessert spot just a few doors down, afterwards.

Yummy churros - - anyway you want em!
{The vanilla glaze was my fave.}

* Saturday morning the boys headed to the temple with their church youth group.

Joe is their leader which makes it pretty fun for all 3 of them.

* London and I ran errands and then met friends for lunch at Blue 32.

Just in case you weren't aware....

Scrunchies are back in.
FOR. reals.

* Churchey-church on Sunday.

Carson gave his first ever talk in Sacrament meeting and pretty much knocked it outta the park.

I was so proud of him.

My dad has been in the hospital all weekend {pneumoniaπŸ‘Ž} and so we headed up there afterwards so he could hear Carson's talk from his hospital bed.

* Chicken Fajitas for dinner...

....and then while the boys were at another church meeting, London and I watched the movie 13 Going On 30 {for the first time ever!}  So darling.  Gosh, I love Jennifer Garner.

Fun Finds Friday + Recipes to try.

It's 115 degrees outside but I still found myself wandering aimlessly down the FALL aisle at Hobby Lobby this week.

Their black and white buffalo check is ON POINT this season!

You know what's better than regular placemats?

Paper {Disposable!} placemats!!!

Target $ bins are full of back to school//teacher stuff.

I could think of a million different things to do with this peg board.

{Idea #1: necklace holder.}

Teacher Friends....

...time to stock up on these $1 Thank You card sets!

Wanna try out a new recipe this weekend?

These are DIVINE!
Joe and I snarfed em down last week.
The kids don't like spag squash so they had their meat mixture over chips - - sorta like nachos.

And as promised...here are the recipes from our
Back to School Dinner last weekend!

Sedimentary Salad is THIS one.
Really...it could be ANY salad you want.
But this one is my NEW FAVE!

Crock Pot Chicken
{My kids all time favorite!}

6 frozen chicken breasts
1 cube of butter
2 packets of Good Seasonings Zesty Italian Dressing mix
{I just bought the generic Kroger brand last time}
1 large can of cream of chicken soup
1 package of cream cheese

Put your butter in your crockpot and then place your chicken breasts on top.  Sprinkle both packets of dressing mix onto the chicken and then top it with your cream of chicken soup.

Cook on high all day.

30 minutes before serving...
Take our your chicken and shred it.

Add your cream cheese.

Stir so it's all mixed together and cream cheese is completely dissolved before serving over rice!

{This also makes for a GREAT Sunday dinner!}

Our Annual Coombs Family Back to School Dinner 2018.

This past weekend we held our annual
Coombs Family Back to School Dinner!

{Our kids started school yesterday! Yes...in July. It's too hot here to do much of anything else!}

Each year at this annual dinner we present our family with a new MOTTO//THEME for the new school year.

We do this in hopes that our kids can always remember it...thru the good times AND the bad while at school and dealing with their day to day activities.

We hope that these themes each year help them to remember what's MOST important in life.

The theme we chose for our 2018-19 school year comes from a scripture in The Book of Mormon:

"And now, my sons, remember, remember that is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall."

Both of our boys are in Junior High this year.
London is in 4th grade.

These are critical years for our children.

I feel, more so now than ever, that our kids are about to face temptations and challenges like we can't even begin to imagine.

I'm a firm believer that you can't shelter your kids from these things. I wish like crazy you could...but you just can't!

No matter what school they go to...
what activities they choose...
who they hang around with...
they will eventually face adversity.

It's just a matter of fact.

I'm also a firm believer in TEACHING our children IN OUR HOME what is RIGHT...and what is WRONG.

I hope with ever fiber of my being, that my kids will REMEMBER the things that they've been taught in our home.

  That they'll REMEMBER why it's SO important to CHOOSE THE RIGHT.

 And that they'll REMEMBER that is upon our Savior Jesus Christ that WE AS A FAMILY choose to build our foundation.

Because...our Savior Jesus Christ is OUR ROCK!

Because of all of this...I chose to do a ROCK themed dinner.
{I'm all about the symbolism, puns...you name it.
 Anything to help them REMEMBER!}

Each place setting had a large rock on it with each member of the family's name on the front - - and a scriptural reference of our theme on the back.

I also filled clear plastic tubes with chocolate ROCK candy and placed them by their utensils.

Our menu for the evening was:

I'll be sharing these recipes with you later this week!
{C-ROCK pot chicken is my kiddo's' FAVORITE!}

I'm all about the daily reminders and so I made up a keychain/backpack clip with a ROCK on it for each of my kids to put on their backpacks.

London's of course, I blinged out a bit...but the boys' I kept very simple and discreet.
{Because HELLO? 7th and 8th graders! πŸ˜‚}

I also made up a set of vinyls and allowed the kids to choose where they wanted to place it in our home.  I told them that it needed to be a place where we could all see it daily.

They chose the garage door in our laundry room.
{Last year, they chose their bathroom mirror and our refrigerator}.

I even made up ROCKS for Joe and I.
Joe took his to work yesterday and put it on his desk.
I placed mine on my nightstand.

A couple of other things worth mentioning about our theme:

I found and showed a couple of short video clips explaining the importance of this scripture.  I starred the ones I showed. They can be found here:

I also stressed the fact that in this scripture...it doesn't say....IF the devil shall send forth his mighty winds.

It says WHEN.

I wanted my kids to be warned that temptation can and WILL happen.  And that they NEED to be ready by REMEMBERING where their foundation has been built.

I love these children of ours.
Oh. So. Much!

This Weekend:

* Friday morning I grocery shopped, cleaned and took London in to see the Doctor.

Poor muffin had swollen tonsils.
No strep.  Nothing contagious.
Just viral and miserable.

*We made things better by stopping at Bahama Bucks afterwards.

Remember how I said in the past that I'm not a fan?
Well I was this time.
Maybe because it was 110 outside and ANYTHING cold tasted good.

We had a couple of fun families over for a BBQ on Friday night. {If you've never tried one of Joe's burgers...you must!}

Joe and our friend Rich ended the evening by fixing our bathroom faucet - - I mean wouldn't YOU want your Friday evening to end that way?
Have you ever had something in your house not work? But for like 6 months? That was this faucet.  It dripped constantly.  For 6 months.

* Saturday morning pancake breakfast at the church!

We really do have the BEST ward family.

* The boys headed off to a party Saturday night, London played at a friend's house and Joe and I attended the mission call opening of one of my sweet Young Women.

Events like this make my heart want to BURST!

I had sweet Erika as a BEEHIVE....and now she's going on a MISSION! Oh so proud of her!

And guess where she's going?
SWEDEN! How lucky is she?!?

* Dinner date afterwards at Local Eats.

Their Pesto Chicken sandwich is where it's at.
We LOVE this place!
{Same owners as Blue 32.}

* Sunday morning we woke up to this....

Such an awesome way to start our Sabbath day.
{Also...what the heck?!
Cubby hasn't pooped in our house for like months!}

* Churchey-church.
It was goodness for my soul.

* Sunday night we held our annual Coombs Family Back to School Dinner.

I am SO excited to share ALL of the details with you tomorrow!!!

Not really sure what is going on here...but this is how we ended our night.

Also...at 8:00 last night it was STILL 105 degrees.

Heaven help us this week...there's a HEAT WAVE going on.
I'll be hibernating in my air conditioned home if you need me.
