Michael Scott's "The Office" themed party.

My niece is OBSESSED with the TV show "The Office" so for her 12th birthday party she planned herself (with the help of her mom 😉) an OFFICE themed party.

The details were incredible!

My cute niece dressed as Michael Scott - - the boss!

Each guest got an invitation a week prior to the party that looked like this...

Everyone was assigned to come dressed a character from the show.

London was Kelly Kapoor and we made sure her outfit was complete with the drawn in beauty mark (London's idea 😂).

My other niece (on the right) was Kevin.
I.  Died!!!!!

All of the food was taken from different episodes on the show...

Yes...they even did a jello mold with a stapler inside of it!
😂😂😂

Also, their ENTIRE house was decked out with 'Office' memorabilla....

For their 'team building' activity...they went bowling!

And for party favors, my niece gave everyone some 'Jims'...

...as well as school office supplies like cute folders, glittery notebooks and markers.

It was such a HIT!

Have you ever seen "The Office"?
We've probably seen every single episode close to
35 times EACH.

This Weekend:

* Friday morning I baked and cleaned the house.

It's a good thing we occasionaly have people over, otherwise the dust in my house might just never get dusted.
😁

I tried a new recipe for Peanut Butter Blondies.
Chocolate + Peanut Butter is the way ot my heart.

* I met a dear friend for lunch at one of my favorite joints: Local Eats

We split the carne asada fries and the sliders and they were BOTH delish!

* Afterschool we picked up London's bestie.
She had two items on her 'to-do' list with this bestie.

1.  Get Bahama Bucks

2.  Get glitter hairspray from Party City.

Done and DONE!

* The boys had their cute friends over Friday night for a hangout...

Chick Fila nuggets, a Circle K run + truth or dare were on their agenda.

Joe and I hid upstairs for most of the night, with the exception of going downstairs a few times, just to embarrass our kids.
{That's like a parental right, huh?}

* Saturday morning was glorious because I slept in until 10:30.  Why my family thought they needed to wake me up and TELL ME it was 10:30 is beyond me...but anyways...😂

* I worked on Etsy orders for most of the day...

...and then we met some of our very favorite friends for a date night at a {new to us} Italian restaurant for lots of laughs.

* Churchey-church on Sunday.

Cubby was so bummed he got all dresed up and then couldn't come with us.
😂😂😂

I LOVED the quotes on the front of our church program.

I've been thinking a lot about the word MINISTERING lately and this quote is exactly what I needed to read.

* I filled in for the pianist in Primary and had the privledge of hearing the sweet kiddos sing THIS song.

Oh my goodness!
It's my new favorite Primary song!!!
Such a sweet message.

* We had my sister over for Sunday dinner {roast beef and mashed potatoes, duh!} and then attended the Open House for our friends' sweet son who is getting ready to leave for his mission to Calgary, Canada.

So much excitement in their home and I loved being apart of it!

Almond JOY cake.

As promised...I'm sharing my recipe for the Almond JOY cake that we had for dessert at our JOY themed
Back to School Dinner last weekend.

A few things about this cake:

1.  I don't even really love the candy bar Almond Joy but THIS CAKE IS SOOOOOO GOOD!!!

2.  Serve it with vanilla ice-cream

3.  I kept my cake in the fridge after it was all ready and served it cold.

EnJoY!!!

CAKE:
1 chocolate cake mix
Prepare and cook cake mix in a 9 x 13 baking pan according to package directions.
FILLING:
1 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup white granulated sugar
26-30 large marshmallows
1 (14 ounce) package coconut
In a pan combine the evaporated milk, granulated sugar and marshmallows.  Cook over medium heat just until the marshmallows are melted. Do not boil. Stir to keep from burning.  Once marshmallows are melted, remove and stir in shredded coconut and mix well.  Spread over hot cake.
TOPPING:
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup white granulated sugar
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup almonds, chopped
Bring the evaporated milk, butter and sugar to a boil on top of the stove.  Remove and stir in chocolate chips until melted.  Stir in chopped almonds.  Spread over coconut filling on cake.
Refrigerate until ready to serve!

Our Annual Family Back to School Dinner 2019.

This past weekend we held our annual family
BACK TO SCHOOL DINNER!

Each year at this annual dinner we present our family with a new MOTTO//THEME for the new school year.

We do this in hopes that our kids can always remember it...thru the good times AND the bad while at school and dealing with their day to day activities.

We hope that these themes each year help them to remember what's MOST important in life.

The theme we chose for our 2019-20 school year is
HAVE JOY

We chose a quote AND a scripture this year to go along with it.

I really wanted to get the message across to my kids this year that it's ok to have a bad day {as much as that stinks!} but it's important to SEEK FOR THE JOY through it all.

Look for the good.

Be grateful.

Count your blessings.

BE HAPPY!
There is SOOOO much to be happy about in this world!

I studied President Nelson's talk
and shared lots of good nuggets from it with the kids.

"When the focus of our lives is on Jesus Christ and His gospel, we can feel joy regardless of what is happening—or not happening—in our lives."

"Life is filled with detours and dead ends, trials and challenges of every kind. Each of us has likely had times when distress, anguish, and despair almost consumed us. Yet we are here to have joy?
Yes! The answer is a resounding yes!"

We talked about what the word JOY meant to us along with the things that bring us each joy.

I chose to go with a CHRISTMAS theme this year.
Yup, Christmas in July!

I asked the kids WHY we sang the song "JOY to the World" at Christmas time?  WHY do we all seem to have SO MUCH JOY during the Christmas season?

Well, besides the gifts and parties and all of that jazz....we have JOY at Christmas time because we are celebrating the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ!! And we know that he LIVES!!!

So shouldn't that give us JOY....all...year...long?!
NOT just at Christmas time?

"Joy comes from and because of Him. He is the source of all joy. We feel it at Christmastime when we sing, “Joy to the world, the Lord is come.” And we can feel it all year round... ..Jesus Christ is joy!"

We ate a traditional Christmas dinner:
Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, rolls, veggies and Christmas punch!

As the kids were dishing up, I even played Christmas music!
{My kids thought that was super funny.}

At each place setting I had made up Christmas ornaments that also served as their name cards.

On one side, it has the words "Have Joy" and on the other side is their name and the year.

I told the kids that they needed to find a spot in their bedrooms to hang this ornament....

..and then at Christmas time, they'd be able to hang it on their Christmas tree!

I'm all about the daily reminders.
When you SEE things...you remember!

I also made up some JOY journals.
We each wrote 3 things that brought us JOY that day.

I told the kids that they were to write in these journals at least 2-3 times a week, hopefully more.  All they needed to write was the date + the 3 things that brought them JOY that day.

I feel like this will be SO fun to look back at at the end of the year.

And for dessert!
We had.......

Almond JOY cake!
This recipe was HEAVENLY and I'll be sharing it with you tomorrow!!!

Advice: If you have access to your Christmas stuff to help you decorate, great!

If not, don't fret.
All of my Christmas loot is in the very back of my garage and it's a sweltering 110 degrees here and I was not about to dig through everything in the heat to find it.

So....what I did....was hit up Goodwill (yes, they have their Christmas stuff out already!) as well as Hobby Lobby.

I bought buffalo check scrapbook paper and used those as the placemats.

Get creative!
Your kids will LOVE IT!

Please let me know if you have any questions at all!
XOXO
